Tipping the Scales: The Most Rebellious Thing You Can Do Today

Intro

Negativity is exhausting.
Everywhere we turn—online, in conversations, even in the church—negativity seems to be the loudest voice in the room. And honestly? I’m tired.

But lately, God’s been showing me something deeper: the fight against negativity isn’t about pretending everything’s fine. It’s about choosing to see the good—because God is still working in all things.

“We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God.” — Romans 8:28 CSB

The Exhaustion Is Real

Negativity is easy. It grabs attention, racks up views, and fuels division.
But it’s also draining the life out of us.

I’ve been sensing a major deficit in optimism, beauty, and light—not fake positivity, but the kind rooted in truth. The kind that looks at pain and still says, “God, You are good.”

That’s not denial. That’s discipleship.
That’s faith in motion.

Fighting the Right Battle

Yes, we’re called to push back against evil. But a big part of that fight begins in how we see.
If God is working all things together for our good, then He must see good even in the hardest moments.

The question is—can we?

“A major portion of fighting back evil is found in choosing to see all of life the way God sees it.”

Negativity may be winning the algorithm, but it doesn’t have to win our hearts.
We can tip the scales—toward what’s beautiful, pure, and unifying.

From Being Heard to Being Healed

We’re obsessed with being heard. But if my only goal is to be heard, that’s about me.
If my goal is unity, reconciliation, and love—that’s about us.

Real progress begins with conversation, matures through proximity (time, place, relationship), and finds completion in unity.
We may not agree on everything, but we can still walk together.

The Hope That Holds Us

When I think about how to push back against the exhaustion of negativity, I’m drawn to Hebrews 10:23-25 (CSB):

“Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, since He who promised is faithful…
Let us consider one another in order to provoke love and good works,
not neglecting to gather together… but encouraging each other,
and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

There’s a divine rhythm here:

  1. Hold on to hope — our faith is anchored in eternity, not emotion.
  2. Incite love and good works — start a riot of love, not destruction.
  3. Stay connected — encouragement grows best in community, not isolation.

Encouragement Is Rebellion

Encouragement isn’t soft—it’s sacred warfare.
To encourage means to build up, to buoy, to lift.
Negativity divides, but encouragement holds people up when life gets heavy.

“Let’s start a riot—of love, hope, and good works.”

As the day of Christ draws nearer, our calling is clear:
Build each other up.
Provoke love.
Encourage more and complain less.

That’s how we tip the scales back toward what’s good.

Final Word

If we can root our hope in Jesus, stir one another toward love and good works, and intentionally build each other up, the exhaustion will fade. We’ll rediscover energy, joy, and unity—and we’ll turn the tide of negativity with the power of hope.

Let’s live this out—together.
Let’s tip the scales.
