What “Daily Bread” Is Really About

What "Daily Bread" Is Really About

Friends,

In the middle of the holiday season when calendars are full, rhythms are disrupted, and gratitude is both practiced and tested I wanted to take a moment to simply reconnect. Not with an update, but with a reflection.

Over the last couple of years, one prayer has quietly shaped our lives more than any other:

“Give us this day our daily bread.”
(Matthew 6:11, CSB)

It’s a familiar line. Easy to recite. Harder to live...if we are being honest.

A Season That Taught Us Dependence

Early last year marked the beginning of a long, stretching season for our family. What we once relied on for stability shifted, and we found ourselves in unfamiliar territory—learning to trust God not in theory, but in practice. Life didn’t slow down. Ministry didn’t pause. The call to serve, open our home, teach Scripture, and love people right where we live, work, and play remained.

What changed was the posture of our hearts.

We began to experience, literally by the day, what it means to rely on God, not for excess, and not for certainty, but for enough. Enough grace, strength, and provision for the moment we were standing in.

Rethinking “Daily Bread”

One day, the Holy Spirit gently reframed that prayer for me. When Jesus teaches us to pray “give us this day our daily bread,” He isn’t responding to a crisis. He’s forming a baseline rhythm of dependence. This prayer isn’t reserved for seasons of lack. It’s meant for every season. If you're a millionaire, "give us this day our daily bread." If you have no idea where your next meal might come from, "give us this day our daily bread."

As time goes on, living in this posture of dependency, the Holy Spirit reveals another layer through John’s Gospel.

Jesus says plainly:

“I am the bread of life. No one who comes to me will ever be hungry.” (John 6:35, CSB)

At this moment, “daily bread” becomes something more than just provision. Daily bread becomes about presence. While the gift is in what God supplies. The true and better gift is who God gave, Himself. In that season until now, we have been invited not merely to trust God for something, but to trust God as our everything. This season has been and still is transformational. And in the grand plan of God, it has set the course for what's to come.

What God Is Doing Now

As we’ve walked this road, something new has begun to emerge. A renewed urgency for the gospel right where we live, work, and play. A deeper commitment to discipleship in everyday life. New doors to serve and develop others who want to follow Jesus and help others do the same. I promise you there's more to share on this...stay tuned!

And all of this doesn’t feel like a pivot as much as it feels like a continuation, of the next movement of God’s work in us. We are confident that God, who started a good work in us will carry this work to completion, when Christ returns. And while He is at work in us, by His grace we will remain obedient, in quiet faithfulness, daily relying on Christ.

Thank You for Walking With Us

None of this happens in isolation. Your prayers, encouragement, generosity, and presence have been part of how God has carried us. Through relationship and support, you’ve helped make space for the gospel to be lived, taught, and shared.

Thank you for being part of that story.

As we step into what feels like a new season of calling and responsibility, we ask you to continue walking with us, praying, believing, and trusting that the same Christ who is our daily bread will continue to meet us day by day.

With gratitude and expectation,
Dewayne & Wendy

TRUE TRIBES STRONG GRATITIUDE A DAILY POSTURE FOR THOSE WHO FOLLOW JESUS Every year around this time, our feeds get filled with quotes about being thankful. The air gets a little softer, the conversations get a little warmer, and everybody seems to pause long enough to say, “Man, I’m grateful.” And there’s nothing wrong with that. But if we only tap into gratitude during the holidays, or only when life feels good we miss the depth, the strength, and the weight of what Scripture means when it...

The Meantime What You Do While You Wait Matters There’s this phrase that’s been sitting heavy on my heart lately: “in the meantime.” When you hear it, you might think of the space between events or the gap between appointments, the downtime before what’s next. But I’ve been thinking about the spiritual meantime. You know, that season between where you are and where you want to be. And here’s the thing:Every man lives in a meantime season. Especially young men in their early 20s. Because...

Thursday nights are always exciting, full of energy, laughter, and life. The street outside our house? Packed with cars. One night, it got so crazy the police were called. The best part? When the officer arrived, he smiled and said, “I know exactly what’s going on here.” He was right. Inside, it’s wall-to-wall with shoes at the door and teenagers everywhere, over forty of them most weeks. A generation of Jesus-followers gathering for fun, food, and faith. From 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., our home...
